Streets and arteries in Bucharest closed on 27 August for the cycling race l’Étape Romania by Tour de France
Bucharest, August 8, 2023. On August 27, Bucharest will host L’Étape by Tour de France, the world’s most famous cycling race for amateurs and enthusiasts. The event will block major arteries of the capital from 7:00 in the morning and will be restored to traffic after 14:00.
Romania is for the second year on the international map of the prestigious L’Étape event, offering the more than 2000 competitors expected at the start the unique experience of champions right at home: a traffic-free capital, three exceptional routes, the highest standards of organization and a festive atmosphere celebrating sport and belonging, participants being usually registered as a team or supported by family, friends, colleagues.
On August 27 traffic will be restricted from 07:00 in the morning until 14:00 on the following streets and arteries:
Bd. Unirii, Bd. Mircea Voda, Splaiul Unirii towards Bucharest, Bd. Decebal, Bd. Basarabia, Calea Victoriei, Bd. Regina Elisabeta, Bd. Schitu Măgureanu, Știrbei Vodă and Ion Câmpineanu Streets, Kiseleff Road, Buzești, Berzei, V. Pârvan. B.P. Hașdeu and Bd. Libertății.
The organisers and the Traffic Police are working together to identify the best detour routes.
Programme of the event on August 27, actions and activities in the Race Village located in Constitution Square:
- 08:00 – the 14 km City Adventure route will start from the Parliament Palace area
- 09:00 – those registered for The Ride, 42 km and The Race, 85 km will start.
- 13:30 – Award ceremony in the Race Village when activities and surprises are planned for both competitors and visitors
There are three refreshment points along the route that will ensure optimal hydration for the competitors: one in the start and finish area, one at the National Arena and one in Victory Square. Competitors will also have fixed technical support in the same areas as the hydration points and a mobile one that will accompany the peloton throughout the race.
A highly trained medical team with extensive experience in emergency medicine will be on site throughout the event. Sanador ambulances (type C) will provide medical intervention in case of emergency and are equipped with defibrillator, monitor, electrocardiograph, pulse oximeter, glucometer, mechanical ventilator, portable and fixed aspirator, injector and all other medical equipment required by national regulations.
The L’Étape Romania by Tour de France Race Village in Constitution Square will tell the story of the legendary brand through a Tour de France exhibition and numerous sponsor activations, in a relaxed festival atmosphere that will transform Bucharest, for one day, into the capital of Romanian cycling. Also here will be organized: a commercial area with a sports profile where the most important brands of equipment and sports nutrition will be present, food-court, warm-up area for competitors, mechanical assistance for cyclists, massage area, awards area with stage and numerous competitions with prizes created by the sponsors of the event.
