CO2 Emission Calculation

In the context of global requirements to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and in accordance with ESRS standards regarding climate change, Reciclad’OR actively monitors and contributes to the reduction of these emissions by recovering and recycling packaging waste.

Remarkable Progress

In 2022, Reciclad’OR recycled over 181,000 tons of packaging waste for its partners, resulting in a reduction of greenhouse gas emissions by 1,098,854 t CO2 equivalent. In 2023, this figure increased to over 189,000 tons, contributing 1,040,734 t CO2 equivalent to emission reduction.

So far, the data has been used internally due to the absence of a legal framework for individual reporting. With the introduction of individual reporting in January 2024, Reciclad’OR will provide, upon request, each company an individual report on the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions resulting from recycling activities, starting February 2025.

Methodology and Accuracy

Reciclad’OR uses the Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) method to ensure data accuracy. This takes into account various types of packaging from industrial and municipal sectors, analyzing collection, sorting, and recycling schemes. We also evaluate the impact of goods generation and energy consumption from unsustainable sources.

Process Assessment

The impact calculation includes all subprocesses of recycling and energy recovery, such as collection, sorting, transportation, and energy consumption. We also consider the emissions generated throughout the process, collaborating with trusted sources such as the GHG Protocol, DEFRA, and ANRE to ensure the relevance of the results.
