Romania ranks 11th in the EU for green energy consumption
During the event organized by Capital and InfoFinanciar, Robert Turcescu asked Ramona Moldovan, deputy general secretary of the Ministry of Energy, how much green energy we produce in Romania.
According to her, compared to the year 2021, Romania produced 1.4 gigawatts from the solar source, 3 gigawatts from the wind source, and 6.6 gigawatts from the hydro source. 2030 target: solar power over 8 gigawatts, wind power 7.6 gigawatts, hydropower 6.9 gigawatts. That means an acceleration of investments in these areas, investments that are currently happening with different sources of financing.
Compared to the other EU states, Romania ranks 11th in terms of the use of green energy and investments in the field. If we refer only to Central Europe and Eastern Europe, Romania ranks third, after Croatia and Slovenia, in terms of the use of green energy and investments in the field.
The Ministry of Energy is willing to encourage the development of prosumer communities
“Is the Ministry of Energy willing to encourage the development of prosumer communities?” Robert Turcescu asked her.
“Indeed, it’s a concern we have. It is true that the legislation, as originally enacted in 2012 and then amended in 2022, defines this concept, but not in great detail. The legal basis, let’s say, could be developed so as to facilitate investments. They are not very active at this time and they are not very utilized at this time these energetic communities to their true potential.
For this reason, in the Ministry of Energy, there is a working group that works together with ANRE and civil society, which has identified a series of vulnerabilities and potentials at this level. We want, on the one hand, to complete the legislation, so that this potential can be exploited and on the other hand, we will launch a scheme dedicated to the needs of these communities through the modernization fund. These are stages in the works, we hope that, by the end of this year, we will come up with some mature proposals that we can capitalize on and then submit for approval”, answered his guest.
Round Table “Energy Transition and Sustainability”
The European Union (EU) has taken the initiative to be a leader in the global energy transition, following the objectives set out in the Paris Agreement to combat climate change and promote clean energy throughout the union. To meet this commitment, the EU has defined ambitious energy and climate targets for 2030. These include at least a 40% reduction in domestic greenhouse gas emissions and a 32.5% improvement in energy efficiency by in 2030 compared to 1990 levels.
Romania has undertaken to reduce ETS emissions by 43.9% by 2030, compared to 2005 levels, and to increase the share of energy from renewable sources in gross final energy consumption by 30.7%. In the light of these objectives, the ROUND TABLE will focus on topics relevant to the energy market in Romania, such as:
- the implementation of the National Integrated Plan in the field of Energy and Climate Change for the period 2021-2030;
- the energy transition: between the assumed commitment and the economic necessity;
- production and consumption of energy from renewable sources in Romania, including solar, wind and geothermal energy;
- energy efficiency as a key factor in the energy transition;
- the role of natural gas as a transition fuel;
- the funds available to support the transition and energy efficiency;
- promoting sustainable development in the energy sector;
- the importance of sustainability reports in the field of energy.
Top specialists in the field of energy transition and sustainability measures in Romania provided the most up-to-date information and answered questions from the audience:
- Mircea FECHET, Minister of Environment, Water and Forests;
- Sorin ELISEI, General Director for Energy Policies and Green Deal at the Ministry of Energy;
- Diana BUZOIANU, Vice President of the Environment Committee of the Chamber of Deputies;
- Aurel OPRINOIU, President of the Senate Environment Committee;
- Corneliu BODEA, CEO of Adrem and President of the Romanian Energy Center;
