Bucharest Company Rankings – 31st Edition
The Bucharest Company Rankings are compiled annually by the Bucharest Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCIB). The laureates of the rankings – the only event of this type accredited according to Law 335/2007 – were established according to a complex and rigorous methodology, applied uniformly at the chamber level, which takes into account quantitative and qualitative indicators. In determining the final rankings, indicators such as net turnover, operating profit, operating profit rate, efficiency of human resources utilization, and efficiency of capital employed were taken into account, calculated based on 16 elements extracted from the financial statements filed by companies with the Ministry of Public Finance and the National Trade Register Office.
According to the top methodology, out of the 169,495 companies headquartered in Bucharest that filed their 2023 balance sheets, 65,677 companies (38.7%) met the eligibility criteria. Of these, CCIB awarded 7,417 companies.
Regarding the structure by field of activity, the most awarded companies by CCIB operate in the services sector (2,590 companies, 34.9% of the total), followed by companies in the trade sector (2,012 companies, 27.1% of the total) and those with an industrial profile (1,501 companies, 20.2% of the total).
In order to achieve the most objective ranking possible, within each group, companies were awarded in five size classes: very large, large, medium, small, and micro-enterprises.
The qualified companies were awarded in seven fields of activity: services, trade, industry, construction, research-development and high-tech, tourism, agriculture, forestry, and fishing, and within each field, in five size classes: very large, large, medium, small, and micro-enterprises. This year, CCIB awarded, according to the top methodology, 483 companies operating in construction, i.e. 6.5% of the total laureate companies. In the ranking compiled by the Bucharest Chamber, a share of 5.6% goes to the field of research, development and high-tech (respectively 412 awarded entities), 3.3% to tourism (247 laureate firms), and 2.3% to agriculture, forestry and fishing (172 companies).
