Promateris Reduced Over 500 Tons of Carbon Emissions in 9 Months After Installing the Photovoltaic Plant:
A Case Study
Promateris, a leader in the production of biodegradable and compostable packaging, announced the remarkable results of an energy efficiency improvement project through the installation of photovoltaic panels. Promateris is committed to adopting sustainable practices and reducing its carbon footprint. In August 2023, the company completed the installation of a 1 MWp photovoltaic system on the roof of its factory in Buftea. This project is part of Promateris’ efforts to transition to renewable energy and reduce environmental impact.
This system generates approximately 19% of the company’s energy needs, contributing to the reduction of carbon emissions and aiding in the production of low-carbon footprint packaging. The project was carried out with the support of a grant from the EEA & Norway Grants. The investment is approximately 1 million euros, of which 597,000 euros are non-reimbursable Norwegian funds. The installation of the photovoltaic plant was carried out by the Romanian company Simtel, and the project was implemented in partnership with the Norwegian company Norsk Energi.
Results 9 Months After Implementation:
Following the implementation of the photovoltaic system, Promateris recorded the following significant results over a 9-month period:
By using solar energy for the production of biodegradable and compostable packaging, the company reduced its reliance on fossil fuel-based energy sources.
In 9 months since installation, Promateris reduced carbon emissions by 510,086 kg, equivalent to the emissions of 11,245 cars over the course of a year. This is a significant step towards the company’s decarbonization goals.
A 20% reduction in electricity costs, having a direct positive impact on the company’s financial efficiency.
Decarbonization Objectives:
Reducing CO2 emissions is one of the most important ambitions of the Promateris industrial group, which aims to exclusively use green electricity sources by 2030. Promateris demonstrates through this photovoltaic panel installation project that a balance can be achieved between economic development and environmental protection. Its firm commitment to sustainability and innovation positions it at the forefront of efforts to combat climate change and build a greener and more sustainable future. The industrial group also serves as a model of best practices in the area of companies with decarbonization objectives.
