TOUR OF ROMANIA 2022 – THE TOUR OF RECYCLING: 24 teams, 15 countries and 850 km covered
Romania was once again on the world cycling map with the 55th edition of the Tour of Romania, organised by the Romanian Cycling Federation, the Ministry of Sport and the Bucharest City Hall less than two weeks after the first edition of L’Étape Romania by Tour de France. Reciclad’OR, together with Rematholding Co, were again with the cyclists coming from all over the world and their supporters, ensuring the green component of the great event.
Recycling Tour
Over 130 competitors. 24 teams from 15 countries. Approximately 850 kilometres covered between Satu-Mare and Bucharest, passing through Bistrița, Târgu-Mureș, Făgăraș and Curtea de Argeș. Plus hundreds of children at special events for young cyclists in each town. This is what this year’s edition of the Tour of Romania looked like, an event watched for the first time in its history in 50 countries, through broadcasts on Eurosport.
Strategic partners Reciclad’OR and Rematholding Co provided the green component of the event. Under the motto “Tour of Romania – Recycling Tour”, Reciclad’OR and Rematholding Co offered competitors and spectators, along the entire route of each of the six stages of the competition and in the start and finish area, the opportunity to collect separately recyclable waste in specially prepared systems and to make the RECYCLING TOUR, succeeding this time in contributing to the reduction of CO2 consumption at national level.

Tour of Romania 2022
The Tour of Romania 2022 took place from 6 to 11 September and gathered professional teams from Spain, Colombia, China, Ireland, Poland, Czech Republic, Italy, Austria, Germany, Netherlands, New Zealand, USA and Bulgaria, including 2 pro-continental teams: Caja Rural, for the first time in Romania, Dropper Drone Hopper – Androni Giocattoli, a team with a history of racing in Romania. The national teams of Romania and Bulgaria have also entered the competition, as well as all three continental teams from Romania: Mentorise Elite Team CFX, Giotti Victoria Savini Due and Team Novák.
In order to promote the beauties of the country, the Little Loop route, made up of over 850 km this year, was built to highlight important tourist areas in Romania. Thus, the 24-team platoon from 15 countries will cross regions such as the Lăpușului Country in Maramureș, the Transylvanian Hills, the Făgăraș Country, as well as the most spectacular road in the country – Transfăgărășan.
The event could be watched for the first time in 50 countries on the Eurosport sports channel.
The organiser of the Tour of Romania, the Romanian Cycling Federation, in partnership with the Ministry of Sport and Auchan Romania, also organised cycling competitions for children in the cities through which the group of competitors passed – Satu Mare, Bistrita, Targu Mures, Fagaras, Cristian and Bucharest – which were a real success. The last event in the Children’s Race series, in Bucharest, had a record number of registered participants: over 800.
According to the final overall classification, the Tour of Romania 2022 was won by British rider Mark Stewart, followed 13 seconds behind by Romanian Cristian Răileanu. In the top 10 there was also a compatriot of ours, Emil Dima, who finished 6th.
