START registration for L’Étape Romania by Tour de France

Bucharest, May 10, 2023: L’Étape Romania by Tour de France, now in its second edition, will take place on August 27 in Bucharest, with the Race Village in Constituției Square, open to both competitors and spectators. Registration for the second edition has officially opened (https://romania.letapebytourdefrance.com/registration), with a limited number of places available.

 

The Tour de France is the most famous cycling race in the world, passionately watched every year by more than two billion fans around the world. The legendary sporting event began in 1903 and the concept of L’Étape by Tour de France was born in 1993, out of a desire to give amateur cyclists a chance to live this unique experience. Romania joined L’Étape by Tour de France in 2022, the 20th country to be accepted into this international event series.

L’Etape Romania by Tour de France is the only competition in Romania that offers the thrill of a world-class race, aimed at all cyclists, from families with children aged 8 and up to performance cyclists. The event is also open to MTB enthusiasts and children will benefit from a 25% discount. Performance cyclists who take up the challenge will benefit from a dedicated ranking.

The routes, starting from the immediate vicinity of Constitution Square, from Bd. Unirii, will cross important arteries such as Calea Victoriei, Bulevardul Kiseleff and Bulevardul Libertății, and will have points of attraction that exude history, such as: Arcul de Triumf, Parliament Palace, C.E.C. Palace, the imposing building of the Bucharest City Hall, Casa Armatei or the Romanian Athenaeum.

The three routes of the event are:

  • City Adventure 14 KM – https://romania.letapebytourdefrance.com/route/2 – those over 8 years old can register
  • The Ride 42 KM – https://romania.letapebytourdefrance.com/route/1 – those who are at least 15 years old can register
  • The Race 85 KM- https://romania.letapebytourdefrance.com/route/0 – those who are at least 15 years old can register

The minimum participation fee (Early Bird) valid until the end of May 28th is 125 RON for City Adventure, 150 RON for The Ride and 185 RON for The Race.

The L’Étape Romania by Tour de France Race Village in Constitution Square will tell the story of the legendary brand through a Tour de France exhibition and numerous sponsor activations, in a relaxed festival atmosphere that will transform Bucharest, for one day, into the capital of Romanian cycling. Also here will be organized: a commercial area with a sports profile where the most important brands of sports equipment and nutrition will be present, food-court, warm-up area for competitors, mechanical assistance for cyclists, massage area, awards area with stage and numerous contests with prizes realized by the sponsors of the event.

On Saturday, August 26, participation kits will be collected from Constitution Square and on Sunday, August 27, the three races will start. The famous yellow jersey awarded to the winners, symbol of victory, excellence, passion and determination will become the big challenge for the participating cyclists. The top three amateur cyclists in The Race, both men’s and women’s, will qualify for the international L’Étape Championship programme and receive an invitation to take part in the famous L’Étape du Tour in France, the world’s most famous amateur cycling competition.

Many top Romanian companies have joined the world’s strongest cycling brand. The official sponsor of the event is AUCHAN, with whom they are involved as sponsors: Altex, Dorna, Vodafone, RTPR, MAXBET and World Class. The official suppliers of the event are: Decathlon, TechnoGym, Sanador, Reciclad’OR, Remat Holding, GoldNutrition, Paste Băneasa, Black Cab, Agriro Fresh, Oliveris, JW Marriott Bucharest Grand Hotel, Detergent Pharmacy, Vesta, Movement Therapy, Medvis Care, Hama, Salonul Bicicletei, AmBike, MTB Academy and Heineken 0.0%. Partners of the event are Bucharest City Hall, Drovie, WWF and Cosmapp Global.

The institutional partners supporting the event are the French Embassy, the Ministry of Sport and the Romanian Cycling Federation.

The event is implementing the campaign “The joy of cycling, TOGETHER!”, a CSR project for the social integration of cyclists with disabilities, supported by OMV PETROM as Official Partner. The “Joy of Cycling, TOGETHER!” campaign will provide disabled athletes with the opportunity to integrate into the community of amateur athletes, to enjoy the festival atmosphere of the event and to set an example of courage, ambition and will for life to all those present or who will be informed about the event and the CSR campaign.

The campaign was launched at the first edition of the event (2022) and will be developed in the long term, being a permanent objective of MPG Romania. Sport offers people with disabilities an extraordinary opportunity to train continuously, to socialize and compete in the community, to engage in an activity that can bring personal satisfaction and to enjoy their results.
